The Annual Chicago Banquet was held in Chicago, Illinois.
The Chicago Jubilee Banquet, by Msgr. Finbarr O'Leary
Taken from friends, October, 2008.
The annual dinner took place on the 15th of September, 2008 at the Drury Lane Banquet Center. It was attended by 425 people from the Archdiocese of Chicago and the Diocese of Joliet, the highest number since this annual fundraiser began some 20 years ago. This year four recipients were chosen to be honored with the St. James award: Deacon John T. Farrell, S.F.O and his wife Mrs. Sheila Farrell, Francis Cardinal George O.M.I., Archbishop of Chicago (shown on the next page), Mr. and Mrs. Frank and Rita Murnane and Fr. Ernie Norbeck.
Such events require a good deal of organization and both credit and thanks go to the organizing committee. This annual event was spearheaded by Msgr. John Moriarty many years ago, while he was still Director of the Society, but without the help of a professional fundraiser in the person of Mr. Dan Chorney, it would have been a very difficult project to mount. A key factor in the success of this event is the support it receives from the Bishops and the pastors. We were honored by the presence of Most Reverend J. Peter Sartain, the Bishop of Joliet together with a number of auxiliary bishops from both dioceses.
The fundraiser generated income from meal tickets, benefactor gifts, sponsored gifts, contributors gifts, patron gifts, advertisements, a silent auction and raffle tickets. The event raised the sum of $44,007 for which the Society is most grateful.
