Priestly life as a missionary in Latin America has many dimensions. Beyond celebrating the Eucharist and administering the sacraments, the missionary becomes deeply involved in the most pressing needs of the local community.

In some communities, our priests have played a critical role in establishing essential educational, health and economic improvements. These range from nursing dispensaries and credit cooperatives to building schools and building roads.

The Society chooses to work in poor areas on the margins of a city or rural areas where there are few priests and amenities such as a church or school available. Once the parish is built up and functioning so that it is finacially viable, we hand it back to the diocese so that the local clergy can assume managment.

Financial support for the Society's pastoral and community work comes primarily from the generosity of donors from home. The principal medium of communication is through our monthly friends newsletter. However, we are also pleased to extend an invitation to any donor who would like to visit our mission sites.

We minister to the spiritual needs of our parishioners. Shown here is Fr. O'Sullivan in his parish in Peru.
