April 21st, 1957
Pope Pius XII promulgated Fidei Donum requesting the Church of the first world to share their priest personnel resources with mission countries.

April 1958
Pope Pius XII established The Pontifical Commision for Latin America (Cal.)     

July 25th, 1958.
Archbishop Richard Cushing announced the establishment of the Pious Missionary Society of  St James the Apostle on the feast the 25th of July.

October 1958
Pope John XXIII elected Pope.

Archbishop Richard Cushing received the Cardinal's red hat.

January 25, 1959
Pope John XX111 announced the summoning of the second Vatican Council.

Feb 22nd 1959.
Departure Ceremony held at the Cathedral.

March 1st, 1959.
First advance party of priest:s Msgr. Edward Sweeney (Director of the Propagation of the Faith and Superior  of the Society) Fr. Rudy Masciarelli,and Fr. Robert Supple traveled to Lima Peru to establish a Center House and liase with the local Bishops.

Fr Raymond  Cowell of the Archdiocese of Chicago joined the Advanced party in Lima.

March 6, 1959.
The remaining ten members left Boston.

November 2, 1959.
The first meeting of the Pontifical Commission for Latin America with Cardinal Cushing as chairman was held at Georgetown.

The Maryknoll Fathers welcomed the new arrivals and escorted them to the Language School in Cochabamba,  Bolivia.

July 7th, 1959
A memorandum. the forerunner of the constitution and the statutes and policies was issued to each new member by Msgr. Edward Sweeney.

July 26th, 1959.
Frs. Don Ballou, Jim Mc Donald and Raymond Cowell began working in the parish of Fatima, Santa Cruz, Bolivia.

July 26th, 1959.
Frs. Bill Pearsall, Joe Martin and Tony Vasaturo began their missions in Andahuaylas and Huancarama, Peru.
