The St. James Society exists under the protection of Cardinal Sean Patrick O'Malley, O.F.M. Cap., Archbishop of Boston. From an operational perspective, the Society of St. James elects its own Director. In 2008, the missionary priests of the Society elected Fr. Kevin Hays, and he began his term in February, 2009. He had served in Latin America for 10 years prior to his election as Director. The Society's members also elect Country Coordinators.
